EXTREMELY GREAT Hamster Care???
May 12, 2010 in Uncategorized by adm
So, I was writing a question the other day (1 minute ago), and I saw a related question below, saying, “How old did your hamster live???” and there was a person who said there dwarf hamster lived to be 5 yrs old, and they cared for it EXTREMELY WELL!!!
I want my hamster to live that long. Here is my daily care for my dwarf djungarian hamster, and tell me how I can make it the healthiest hamster EVER!!!
Care:
So, I give it this food called Forti-Diet Blocks for mice rats and hamsters by Kaytee:http://www.petco.com/product/5906/Kaytee-Forti-Diet-Mouse-and-Rat-Food.aspx
Look at the one that is mice rats and hamsters.
I give it care fresh bedding:

Clean it out once a week.
I feed it strawberries, apples, lettuce, carrots, celery, banannas, and more.
And, I have this cage:

The Large.
I have a spinning wheel, pet bowl, water bottle, and thats pretty much it.
How can I improve my daily care???
But no,you see, his was a dwarf like mine.
Some hamsters just live that long my syrian hamster called sooki lived for 4 years
her sister who got exactly the same treatment, same cage and everything died age 2 years!
I would recommend you think about getting a barred cage for your hamster, if you can. The critter keepers are OKAY, but they don’t have the ventilation that a barred cage has, even though they say they’re fully ventilated. Ammonia from their urine can damage the respiratory system, so that’s something to think about!
Make sure the bar spacing is small, since you have a dwarf.
It’s great that you’re thinking about improving, that’s a sign of a good pet owner!!
Your hamster might get bored it needs
a house all hamsters need a house to have as thier “own” so if they get scared or tired they can go up there OR instead of buying one a funner way is to get a old sock and put toilet paper roll in the begining of the sock so it can have easy access
chewing toys wood blocks [ not painted]
and that cage could get boring my drawf hamster soemtimes gets bored and she lives in a two story cage you might wanna get a two story cage so she/he can explore more because that one is a bit plain to be blunt its one story and that not big enough thats more for like a frog i t has a picture of a hamster but it wont enjoy it much get a exiting cage like one with tubes so it can explore and you should get a exsersize ball (small so it can roam)
its great you care so much about your hamster and that you want best for it your a great owner =]
Talk about spoiled hamster.
well, you need to not always give him treats because this can make him, fat and un-healthy, give him toys, and spend an reasonable amount of time with him every day because his mental state of mind needs to be just as healthy as his physical body.
you should also have something for him to chew because hamsters teeth are constantly growing and need something to chew on to keep them from growing too long.
also many times a food for many small animals will lack things that your hamster may need.
also, it may be a good idea to clean out his cage twice a week, or once a week and just take a scooper and scoop it out 2-3 times a week.
it sounds like there in exalant hands
it is good u wish to let ur hammie live it long life. ur a great owner i own three syrians (did hav 4 but one sadly went last night) they need good exersice and plenty of interaction with humans. just dont be 2 heavy handed with him and keep him away from other animals like cats and he should be a good long living hammy
play with it a lot but only when it is awake and 10-15 min. at a time!
That cage is boring. Your hamster probably doesn’t have much room to move around in. Get a barred cage! And I would lay low on the people food, it wont kill them, but too much fruits can cause diharreah and too much will get your hamster fat. My hamster is in love with the hamster yoggie treats, get a thing of those. =]
